<DM> So, you're walking. <DM> You've got the prisoners. <Fordran> i kill them. oh wait. we're really playing. check. * Apol inflicts more jokes on the prisoners. <Erias> I'm trying to keep an eye on everybody with my untrained spot checks. <Apol> "What kind of fin isn't a fin?!" * Erias feels sorry for the orcs. * Fordran discusses the [Crumpled Note] with Erias in worried tones. <DM> (Elf to Erias) "My name is Kel'uin, by the way. I will take watch for the night." <Apol> "Come on... what kind of fin isn't a fin?" <DM> (Orc) "What's a fin?? <Fordran> (btw the other elves, they're not around anymore?) <DM> (Half-Orc) *grits teeth quietly* <Apol> "It's fish parts, I think. You know fish right?" <DM> (Orc) "Oh, fish parts. Like guts and scales and jawbones." * Erias nods head in greeting / acknowledgement. "We have enough men for a double-watch. Given the strangeness of recent events, I think it might be a good idea." <DM> The other Elves have not been seen since the ambush, and Kel'uin does not seem to be showing any sign of concern. * Vita has joined #ddi * Fordran sets mode: +o Vita * Fordran will show some signs of concern. <Apol> "Yeah! Exactly, the fin that isn't a fin is a Dol-fin! Get it? Get it? Why aren't you laughing. Laugh!" <DM> (Orc) scratches his head. <Fordran> "Ah... what about the other elves? Maybe they got injured? AmbusheD? Shouldn't we... check?" <Apol> "Aww. You're no fun." <DM> (Elf) is silent for a moment. "They are already dead." * Apol scampers over to hear what the Bob-likes are talking about. <DM> Spot checks, except Vita. <DM> Er Listen. <DM> Not Spot. * Erias looks up at those words <Fordran> "...Oh. I... oh." <Foster> (Okay, Fist of the North Star) <Erias> |roll d20+1 <Fordran> |roll d20+3 <tafal> 4 | [d20=3] [+1=1] <tafal> 8 | [d20=5] [+3=3] <DM> (Fist of the North Star?) <Apol> |roll d20+7 <tafal> 24 | [d20=17] [+7=7] <Foster> (Blah blah blah... you are already dead, etc) <Fordran> (well, at least someone broke the 6 barrier) * Erias looks like he was about to say something in response, but is frozen in time as people make listen checks. <Apol> "Hey! Someone is here. HI!" <Erias> "They're -- what?" <Vita> Um... hi <Fordran> "Where? Who? More elves...?" <Apol> "Nice... horse. Is that a horse?" <Erias> ("It's a brownie!") <Erias> (just kidding) <Fordran> ("Hang on, I think I have some Cold Iron on me") <Vita> *Pup, the largest german shepherd that you've ever seen, snorts* * Vita smiles a little <Fordran> (btw what DO we see, if we do see anything?) <Vita> He likes to think so <DM> You see a large german shephard being ridden by a gnome. <DM> She has a small shortbow strapped across her back. <Erias> "Greetings, uh... Gnome." <Fordran> (how far? within flamestrike range?) <Vita> "I'm Vita" <DM> She's maybe 15 feet behind you. I'm assuming people stop. <Fordran> (ah. that's important to know.) <Vita> "I just came from a battle scene not too far from here. What happened?" * Erias has turned and taken a couple of steps toward her. <Apol> "My name is Apollonaridictis. Call me Apol. What's your horse's name?" <Fordran> "Hello... brigands tried to attack us. We drove them off." <Vita> "There was a rather hurt looking orcish thing a ways away, but i didn't want to touch (or smell!) it with a 10 foot pole" <Erias> "Vita, I am Erias. As my friend says, we were ambushed." <DM> The orc and half-orc exchange a glance at that. <Apol> "Yeah, brigands that don't know a good joke when they hear it" *pouts in a lizard like way* <Erias> "One of them was alive?" <Fordran> "Did you see which way he was headed?" <Fordran> (to Erias) "Perhaps he's heading back to the other captives." <Vita> "Barely. I didn't know what to make of him." <Vita> "Let me try and remember" <Vita> "I also found a... body" * Vita looks a little uncertain at how to continue <Fordran> "What kind?" <Vita> "Barely meaning I doubt he'll make the night" <Vita> "He actually had a cloak on like... well..." <DM> (She's talking about the orc, barely alive) <Erias> (to Fordran) "Sounds likely. I'm afraid I'm not much of a tracker, but it would be good to find out what direction he's headed..." * Vita points at the cloaked elf <Vita> ( i assume she sees him) <DM> (Elf) "As I said, they are already dead." * Fordran looks at Kel'duin. "I'm sorry." <Vita> "My apologies for bringing bad news" <Fordran> "Should we retrieve the bodies? Take them to a temple, or...?" <Erias> (to the Elf) "I'm sorry to hear it as well. Was this due to the same brigands?" <DM> Kel'duin waves a hand dismissively. "Our duty to the Lord Mayor is paramount." He pointedly doesn't look at Sam. <Vita> "I tried to follow the other tracks away from the battle, but I lost them" <DM> "Likely. I lost contact with them shortly after we were ambushed." <Fordran> "Are you injured at all, Vita?" <Erias> (to Vita) "Which way are you headed?" (pause) <Fordran> (does vita have all our descriptions?) <Vita> "No, I didn't engage in battle" <Vita> (no) <DM> (I described them last time...) <Vita> (she doesn't remember well) <DM> Erias is the armored knight with the horse. <Fordran> (omgznerf free mounts) <DM> Fordran is the walking man with a breastplate. * Vita gestures vaguely west <DM> Sam is the peasant-looking person. <Vita> "Not really going anywhere, just going" <DM> Apol is the winged lizard. <Erias> (to Vita) "You are welcome to walk with us and discuss these happenings further..." <DM> Kel'duin is the Elf * Sam waves from the "not really appearing in this episode" trailer. <Fordran> "Perhaps you should travel with us. There may be more brigands ahead." <DM> And there's an Orc and Half-Orc looking beaten up. <Fordran> (and tied up.) <Vita> "Perhaps I should." <Vita> "Although Pup and I are still pretty good at disappearing when the odds are bad" * Vita glances up at the winged lizard * Apol ponders the thought of more brigands. Apol hopefully asks, "Will they have more poison?" <DM> You travel together westward, on the road to Threecrown. * Vita suddenly realizes there's a lizard talking * Vita blinks a few times <Apol> "Oh I forgot to ask. Vita, have you seen Bob?" <Vita> "Hi... who is... Bob?" * Fordran says aside to Vita, "We don't really know who Bob is." * Vita asks Apol "What does Bob look like?" <Apol> "Well, he's kinda like Erias, or Fordran, or Sam, but more wrinkly and beardful." * Vita glances around <Apol> "And he likes pointy hats>" <Vita> "I... I... um... don't think so" <DM> The sun begins to set. Those of you familiar with the geography realize that there is maybe another 6 hours to travel on foot. <Fordran> (i have no idea how much farther we have to go. yay!) <Erias> "It's probably best that we start looking for a place to camp." <Vita> "Do you tend to travel at night?: <DM> (For fun, we're going to roleplay the trip IN REALTIME! YAY!) <Fordran> "Yeah." <Fordran> (six months pass.) <Vita> (*shudder*) <Fordran> "I don't like to travel at night. Too dangerous." <Fordran> (the yeah was to erias.) <Erias> "We would if we had to, Vita, but we need to sleep." <Erias> "Do flying lizards sleep?" <Vita> "So much easier to avoid the monsters, though" <Vita> "I could sleep, I suppose" <Apol> "Me? Yes. I like to sleep. I like to dream of shiny things." <Fordran> "I could use the rest. My feet are sore." <Vita> *Pup slows his steps a bit and grumbles* <DM> The Elf smirks. <Vita> "Ok, Pup, we'll rest" * Vita starts scanning the woods around for good campsites <DM> How far off the road would you like? * Fordran also looks for good campsites, but is untrained at Survival. * Fordran prefers at least one Flamestrike's distance away. * Erias is also untrained. Perhaps 100'? Are the trees / underbrush thick? <Vita> (probably far enough to not be seen but close enough to be able to walk over and look easily) <DM> The trees are fairly sparse here, as the land rolls towards the coast. * Vita keeps looking <Vita> (should I roll a Survival?) <DM> Nah. But nothing is both hidden from the road, and offers a good view. <Fordran> "Not much in the way of cover around here. I guess that's good and bad." <Erias> "I'd prefer a good view to complete safety." <Vita> "How worried are you guys about this road? I'm not really from around here..." <Fordran> "How about over there?" * Fordran gets the Plot moving. <Apol> "I'm hungry." <DM> (points randomly) * Apol flies off. <Erias> "Looks good to me." <Fordran> "No, Apol, we're going... there... hm." <Erias> (set up camp, make food, etc) * Vita sends Pup out hunting <Fordran> (Your skill in Cooking has increased to 2, etc) <Erias> "I'll take first watch with Kel'duin" (to Kel'duin) "if you're willing." (to group) "Sam and Vita on second watch?" <DM> Kel'duin nods to Erias. * Vita sizes Sam up <Vita> "Sure" <Fordran> "I guess I've got last watch with... Apol?" <DM> (Kel'duin) "I will watch throughout." <Erias> (I don't really know how watches normally work -- three shifts, then, of four hours each?) * Vita roasts some rabbit that Pup got over the fire while people sort out watches <Foster> (The standard adventuring plan has casters getting first or last watch for 8 hours uninterrupted rest, etc) <Fordran> (is the whole Elves-don't-sleep-thing wellknown?) <DM> Kel'duin leans up against a tree, facing Sam's general direction. <DM> (Depends on whether you know any Elves) <Vita> (crap, maybe I shouldn't be on second watch) <Fordran> (to Kel'duin) "Won't you get tired?" * Erias nods to Kel'duin. (to Fordran) "Sounds good. I'm sure the lizard has good senses, and it's certainly skilled at being noisy if something happens." <Erias> (does Vita seem uncomfortable with second watch? No one else knows she's a caster.) <Vita> (you know, those important level 1 ranger spells) * Apol flies back with a squirrel. "Food!" <DM> "I am ever vigilant." He pauses. "Besides, we do not sleep." <Vita> "Actually... I need to... um... meditate in the morning <Vita> " * Vita looks slightly embarrassed <DM> (You don't, unless you used up your spells) <Vita> (Oh.) <Vita> (dammit) * Vita takes all that bad <Erias> we can retcon that line as not happening <Vita> back <Vita> yay! <Erias> I mean... DM willing <DM> Sure. <Fordran> (damned rollbacks) <Fordran> "Oh. I'm a lot more tired than I thought." * Fordran sits down. <DM> It's a warm summer evening. The crickets are out in force. <DM> Luckily, no bloodsucking insects live around here. * Vita lets Pup pick a spot, then sits down and leans back against him * Apol offers the squirrel to the group. "Verdissvaeri for you? Stringy but good." * Vita gestures at the rabbit and shakes her head <Apol> (Just say no to bloodsucking insects) * Fordran will take whatever meats there are (ah, cooked ones, that is), and says a little offering of thanks to Pelor. * Vita takes a small pouch of berries out of her bags and the rabbit off the fire and shares dinner with Pup * Apol hands the squirrel to Fordran. <Vita> (the rabbit is only enough for two) <Fordran> (okay, then) * Fordran takes out some trail rations. * Erias takes out some dried meat and... yeah, that. <DM> The orcs sit together and uncomfortably munch on some dry rations. * Vita leaves the last berry and bits of rabbit near a tree in the forest away from camp * Vita says in an aside to Fordan "Why do you have those orcs?" <DM> (They're all over Durotar!) <Fordran> (*stab*) <Vita> (Fordran even) <Fordran> "These brigands surrendered to us." * Erias leans against a with a good view of both the party and the road. <Fordran> "We're taking them to Threecrown to hand them over to the authorities there." * Fordran starts taking off his armor, because he's not cool with Fatigue. <Erias> oh. crap. <Vita> "Admirable." <Fordran> (nor did he take Endurance.) * Erias leaves his armor on, because he's not sleeping yet. * Fordran is now dressed in Adventuring Clothes (<Made by Rijndael>). * Apol finishes eating and decides it's time to give the orcs a second chance with some knock-knock jokes. <DM> Sam moves to the edge of the clearing furthest from the elf, and makes himself as comfortable as possible on his bag. * Erias makes sure the orcs have food and water. <DM> The orcs pretend to be sleeping when Apol approaches. <Fordran> "Anyone need fresh water?" * Vita directs Pup a comfortable distance from the fire - warm, but not too warm * Vita glances in her waterskin <Vita> "Actually, yes" <Fordran> "Hand me that." * Vita hands Fordran the waterskin <Fordran> "Pelor, sustain us with your light." (Create Water) * Fordran hands back a filled waterskin. <DM> ("Pelor, make me wet.") <Fordran> (Ew) * Vita dips her finger in the water <Apol> (stabs DM for you all) * Vita licks cautiously * Vita flicks the water around <DM> Fort save. <DM> Just kidding. <Vita> "Real magic! My thanks." <Fordran> (actually, if anyone who has waterskins hands them to me, i fill them all at once.) * Vita nods politely to Fordran <Fordran> (unless we have more than 12 gallons of waterskins.) * Erias smiles. * Fordran casts Heroes' Feast. <DM> People drift off to sleep... (except Erias and Kel'duin) <Fordran> <Final Fantasy Tent Music> * Vita burrows her head in Pup's fur and starts snoring * Fordran sleeps. <DM> (Colin?) <Erias> |roll d20+1 <tafal> 9 | [d20=8] [+1=1] <Erias> (love it) <Erias> (love it!) * Fordran loves it. <Vita> (whathuh?) <DM> Kel'duin "Hey, what are you doing!" <DM> *ZWOM* <DM> The Half-Orc disappears. <Erias> "What?" Looks around, gets up <Fordran> "Zzzzzz." <DM> Uh, you can't wake up without a Listen check at -20. <Vita> "ZZZZZZZZsnnneerrrkkkkkzzzzzzzz" <Erias> me? <Vita> |roll d20 + 11 - 20 <tafal> incorrect usage: roll <string> (where <string> is something like: d6 or 2d6 or 2d6+4 or 2d6+1d20 or 2d6+1d5+4d7-3d4-6) => Rolls that set of virtual dice <DM> Erias is awake. <Vita> |roll d20 -9 <tafal> incorrect usage: roll <string> (where <string> is something like: d6 or 2d6 or 2d6+4 or 2d6+1d20 or 2d6+1d5+4d7-3d4-6) => Rolls that set of virtual dice <Vita> |roll d20-9 <tafal> 8 | [d20=17] [-9=-9] <DM> No, I was talking to them. <Erias> gotcha. <DM> You saw the Half-Orc disappear, and the Orc is fiddling with something. <Fordran> |roll d20-20 <tafal> -9 | [d20=11] [-20=-20] <Erias> charging the orc * Vita jumps up <Fordran> "....zzz...zzzzzzz." * Vita takes out her shortbow <Vita> "Pup, up!" <Apol> |roll d20-13 <tafal> -10 | [d20=3] [-13=-13] * Vita mounts <Apol> ".. gold.. mine... zzz..." <DM> The orc looks up, curses, and starts to run for the road. His ropes have fallen off of him. <Erias> hold up, Vita, that's at least two rounds since you woke up <DM> Init, Erias <Erias> |roll d20 <tafal> 16 | [d20=16] <DM> Okay, you go. <Vita> (ok, I don't know when to do things and when to stop, I'm kind of new) <Erias> charging grapple <Vita> (sorry) <Erias> (you can do that, right?) <DM> Yes. <Fordran> yep <Erias> (no worries) <DM> You make it to him before he finishes cursing. <DM> Touch attack. <Erias> |roll d20+8 <tafal> 15 | [d20=7] [+8=8] <DM> grapple check <Erias> |roll d20+2 <tafal> 15 | [d20=13] [+2=2] <DM> Erias tackles the Orc to the ground. There's no Half-Orc to be seen. <DM> Their ropes are on the ground <Fordran> (should i roll init?) <DM> Probably not necessary anymore. * Vita readies her bow in case the orc gets away from erias <DM> The orc stops struggling and sighs. <Apol> "Where's the other one?" <Vita> "He disappeared!" * Apol leaps into the air. * Fordran finally gets up. <Erias> (to the orc) "Sit. And talk." (to the others) "Could someone tie him up?" * Fordran picks up a rock and says, "Pelor, light our way!" (light) <DM> The orc tosses a small stick to the ground, which has been snapped in half. * Apol flies to the tree tops and sees nothing but trees in the darkness u * Vita looks at the stick * Erias lets go of the orc and draws his mace. * Vita wants to see if it's like the other sticks she saw <DM> The orc sits. <DM> He's glowering. <Vita> "I saw a stick like this before" * Fordran looks around, but being Human and untrained in Spot, sees nothing. <Vita> "Near where the elf I found battled... something" * Apol flies down and lands near the orc. <DM> He flinches a bit as Apol lands. <Fordran> "Where did the other one go, orc?" <DM> "Gone, dunno." <Erias> "Where would you have gone?" <DM> "Boss say, if get caught, use stick." <Fordran> "A wand." * Erias has a light dawning sort of look. <Vita> "Something that disappeared... oh... right... with the stick" <Fordran> "I think we should search this one more thoroughly, Erias." <Apol> "A wand? I want to see." <Fordran> "Just in case he has any more surprises." <Erias> "Good idea." * Vita suddenly understands what happened with the battle with the elf a lot better * Apol moves and picks up the pieces. <DM> It's a small wooden stick, stripped smooth, like a shaft of an arrow. <DM> It's broken in half, and smells like orc sweat. <Erias> I'll search the orc and beckon for Fordran to do the same. <Fordran> ("Write Elbereth with it.") * Apol sniffs. <DM> (So one of you will Search, and the other assists or something?) <Fordran> (sure. rochambeau you for it, colin) <Erias> (okay) <Fordran> (rock!) <Erias> (rock) <Fordran> (NOTHING BEATS ROCK) * Apol pulls out the monocle. <Erias> (scissors) <Fordran> |roll d20 <tafal> 15 | [d20=15] <DM> (What, d3, 1= paper, 2= rock, 3= scissors?) <Erias> |roll d20 <tafal> 20 | [d20=20] * Vita keeps her distance from the "stick" and keeps her bow in hand <Erias> if only that had been my search check <Fordran> (not sure who's rolling what honestly) <Fordran> (letting DM decide who rolled it) <DM> Fordran finds a small leather armguard strapped to the Orc's upper arm. <Erias> I think you were taking it and I was assisting, honestly <Erias> pretty good either way. <Fordran> "What's this?" <DM> It has notches on it, for something thin to fit. <DM> It's empty. * Apol looks through the monocle at the pieces of wand, and at Vita for that matter. <Fordran> "What was in here, orc?" <DM> "Stick." <Fordran> "Well, then." * Vita looks back at Apol, squinting <DM> Apol is looking at you through some sort of colored lens. * Fordran goes and gets the bits of rope. <Vita> "What's that, Apol?" * Apol laughs and keeps the monocle. <DM> The rope is completely undamaged. <Apol> "It's Bob's eye glass. It shows me shiny things." <Vita> "Does Bob know you have his eye glass?" <Apol> "The arcaniss has gone from this wand." <Apol> "Um... well, no. Not really, he doesn't know." *mildly embarrassed* <Apol> "He's been gone a while now. So, I'm just borrowing some stuff from home." <Vita> "It'll help you find him, right?" * Vita grins <DM> (Kel'duin) "Maybe we should just march him into town and get him out of our hands." <DM> "Let them deal with any surprises." <Apol> "Maybe it will. But it shows me what's shiny. Like your cloak. You don't need your cloak do you? If you don't need it I'll take good care of it for you if you want." <Fordran> "Hm. Maybe we should. What time is it? How long till sunrise?" <Erias> "I don't know if they'll be well prepared. I don't feel comfortable abandoning this problem." * Vita strokes her cloak <Vita> "Uh, no... thanks... I rather like it" <DM> Kel'duin shrugs at Erias. <Fordran> "They're probably better prepared than we are." * Vita looks at Apol sideways <Apol> "Aw. Ok." mumbles "That's what everybody says..." <DM> "It's about 5 hours til dawn." <Fordran> ("Well, not all my spell slots have lit up yet...") <Vita> "We're either going to be up at night watching him, or up at night taking him in..." <Erias> "I suggest we get some more sleep. We've searched him again, and we'll be watching more closely." <DM> Kel'duin "I'd kill him, but he probably has information on the captives." <Erias> "Tomorrow morning we can head into town." * Vita shrugs <DM> Kel'duin "Or, if word gets out that they're holding him, maybe someone will come to kill him." <Erias> "And then -- with those of you who are willing -- I'd like to try to find the other captives." <Fordran> "I'll go with you." <Vita> "What other captives do you think there are?" * Apol flies up to Erias. "Oh, Town! Can I go to town? There are lots of shiny things in there right?" <Fordran> "There--" Fordran ducks out of the way of Apol. <DM> Kel'duin shrugs again. "Very well, I'll continue to keep watch." <Erias> "Apol, you can go, but you may want to stay out of sight. The townspeople won't be used to you." <Fordran> "--are probably captives. These brigands were out trying to kidnap us, or so they said." <Vita> "Oh, I see... do you know why they wanteed to kidnap you?" <Vita> "Why on earth would people go around grabbing people for no reason?!" <Fordran> "No." <Fordran> "Slaves? Maybe. Or worse." <Vita> "S..slaves?" * Fordran yawns. <Vita> "I'll help." <Apol> "What are slaves?" <Fordran> "I'm not really much of a night person. I'm sorry." * Vita looks a little confused <Erias> "Let's get some sleep." * Vita nods and goes back to "bed" <DM> The rest of the night passes uneventfully. * Fordran lies back down again, pulls his cloak over him. <DM> (Yay temporal compression narrative!) <Fordran> Six months pass. <Erias> "Apol, slaves are people kept... you know, in a cage, maybe? Somehow forced to stay and work." <DM> Dawn comes far too early for some of you. * Apol thinks about that while falling asleep. <DM> (Yeah, okay, you all get your 8 hours) * Fordran is up just before the sun rises. * Vita wakes up with a start and just about jumps out of her skin until she realizes the people around are those she was travelling with * Fordran is facing east, praying. * Erias is also up, and participates in a sunrise prayer to Pelor. <Foster> ("There's only one god! He is the sun god! Ra! Ra! Ra!") <Fordran> (The sunrise prayer is Not At All gay-looking.) * Apol watches everyone. <DM> (Heh) * Vita grooms Pup <Fordran> "Good morning, everyone! May Pelor shine upon us this day." <Vita> "Isn't that better, my friend? Yes, yes it is!" <Vita> *Pup barks* <Vita> "Yes... well... morning." * Fordran looks significantly happier and healthier. <DM> Kel'Duin "Let's get going." * Fordran double-checks to make sure the orc is still here. * Vita mounts back up on Pup and gets ready to go <DM> Sam is eyeing Kel'Duin warily. * Erias prepares to leave, along with the others. * Fordran dons his armor. <Fordran> (There is Helping with Armor Wearing going on) <DM> The orc sulkily slouches ahead, moving fast enough, in his approximation, not to be kicked. * Fordran happily erases the Spells Used Tick Marks on his list. * Apol flies near Erias. "So, was I Bob's slave? It's a lot of fun being a slave." * Vita rides to one side of the group, murmuring at Pup <Erias> "It... what?" <Fordran> "I don't think you were a slave, Apol." <Fordran> "Slaves do work, and they're usually not treated very well." <Apol> "Hmmm. Well I did stay in a cage and do work for Bob." <Apol> "Oh." * Apol thinks about that. <Erias> "They also aren't allowed to leave." <Fordran> "Some slave masters punish slaves that don't work hard enough. Sometimes they kill them." <Apol> "Well... I wasn't either. But Bob was gone so long. There's only so much watching of the scrying pool one can do. And I ran out of food. So I ate my cage." <Apol> "Oh. Well, Bob hasn't killed me yet." <DM> After an hour or so, the land begins to slope downward, and you can see a wide expanse of glittering water. <Fordran> "You... ate? Your cage?" <Apol> "Yeah. It was a bit tough. But I was hungry." <Fordran> ("There it was. The shining jewel, Lut Gholein.") <Fordran> "You always seem to be hungry, Apol." <Vita> "I've never seen a lake that big in my life!!!" <Fordran> "I think that's the sea, Vita." * Vita stops for a second and stares, then pup catches up with the group <Erias> "It must be." * Vita thinks for a second <Fordran> "Never did make it out to the coasts on any of my caravans." <DM> Occluding some of the glitter is a mediumish town, surrounded by stucco walls. <Fordran> "...It sure is big." <Vita> "Oh, that's right. I read about the sea in a book my parents made me read." <Vita> "It's pretty!" <DM> Kel'duin "Good. We can get some things settled." <DM> Sam sweats. <Erias> "This is the town? I thought it would be bigger." * Vita wanders over to Sam <Vita> "Are you alright?" * Fordran shrugs. <Vita> "You look a little feverish" <Fordran> "Maybe this isn't actually Threecrown." <DM> Sam "Um, yeah. It's complicated." <Fordran> "I guess we'll find out." <DM> The orc grumbles. * Vita offers Sam random fever forest remedy <Vita> (Jungle Remedy!) <DM> "No no, I'm fine. It's not physical." <Vita> "Oh. Ok." <Fordran> "What is it, then?" <Fordran> ("It's Plot-related.") * Vita and Pup wander off and go back to staring at the sea <Apol> (Bad case of Plot.) <DM> The slope steepens a bit before easing to the town gates. <Fordran> (Stormwind just cued up) <DM> (Fordran, you were present for the exchange between Elf, Sam, and Erias... so you should know :P) <Fordran> (oh. that.) <Fordran> "...Oh. I'm sure everything will get cleared up." <DM> There's a lot of foot traffic for an otherwise sleepy-looking port town. <DM> The guards seem to mostly be waving people through. <Fordran> "I guess we're looking for the local... magistrate?" * Fordran goes up to a guard. <Apol> *whispers* "Where do I hide?" * Apol whispers to Erias. <DM> Guard: *yawn* "'elcome t' Threecrown, don't draw any weapons, see the farmer's fair, enjoy yer stay. Move along." <Erias> *in a low voice* "Just stay under someone's cloak. Here." <Fordran> "Uh... is there a magistrate here?" * Apol hides under Erias cloak. <DM> Guard: *without missing a beat* City center, north at the fountain, can't miss the spiked gavel. move along." * Erias shrugs. <Fordran> ("Where can I learn Leatherworking?") <Fordran> "Ah. Thank you. May Pelor's light shine upon you." * Vita tries to "blend in" * Erias moves along. <DM> The guard gestures at Erias' cloak, "Keep all familiars on a tight leash, and clean up their messes." <Fordran> "Famil..." * Erias smiles, nods. "I would indeed." <Vita> (as much as a gnome on a dog can blend in) * Fordran moves along. * Erias continues walking. <Fordran> "What was that about? Family?" * Vita follows <Erias> "I'm not sure." <Apol> "Are we family now?" <Erias> (do we know what familiars are?) * Fordran has no ranks in Knowledge (Arcane). <DM> (If any of you knows any wizards, maybe.) * Vita grins <Vita> "Have you ever met a wizard?" <Fordran> "...Maybe once. On a caravan. Not really." <Vita> "They have these little pets they keep around" * Erias looks troubled. "I met a couple once." <Vita> "Can do some spell-casting stuff with them..." <Apol> "Oh, right familiars. Bob has one. Maximillian is a big black bird." <Fordran> "Huh. Hey, Apol, were you..." <Fordran> "...guess not." * Vita grumbles under her breath "Or just annoy the shit out of you" <Fordran> "Here it is. Big spiked gavel." * Erias nods, watches the orc and Sam. "Let's go in." * Vita wonders if it's ok for a dog to enter a house * Fordran wonders if it's ok for a horse to enter a house. <Vita> "Guys? Do you think, um, Pup would be welcome?" * Erias ties his horse to something. <DM> As you approach the fountain in the City Center <Erias> er... oh. <Erias> rewind. <DM> Erias, make a reflex save <Erias> |roll d20+6 <tafal> 17 | [d20=11] [+6=6] <Fordran> (is Erias still mounted in the town?) <DM> You dive to the side as a bolt of fire scorches past you, singing you slightly (5 damage) <DM> (I assumed he got off of his horse) <Fordran> (k) <Vita> (I definitely didn't) <Erias> "Wha-?!" <Erias> (I did) <DM> A relatively short man with coppery hair runs back into the alley. * Fordran is too surprised even to react. * Vita glances around worriedly <DM> A table with a parasol set up near an open-air cafe catches fire. <Erias> Unless he's obviously out of range, I'd like to pursue. * Apol falls out of the cloak as Erias moved quickly. <DM> Some of the waiters are trying to put it out. * Fordran will do something about that, if he gets the chance. * Apol catches air with wings spread and flies after the man. <DM> Who's following? * Fordran is frozen-on-init. * Vita will follow the man, if she gets the chance <DM> No init. * Vita ditto <Vita> oh. * Fordran Creates Water over the parasol. <DM> Just tell me who's following and who's not. * Erias is following, leaving horse, and saying "Watch the orc!" <Apol> Me! * Vita rides after the man, yelling "Stop!" <Fordran> (and then following erias, s.t. he's 1 round behind.) <DM> Okay. <DM> Apol shoots ahead into the darkened alley, with Pup close on its heels. <DM> Erias clanks behind. <Vita> (btw, 40 ft/round movement) <DM> Fordran can't seem to catch Erias, but keeps pace. <Fordran> (I can move 30') <Fordran> (right, keeps pace) <Fordran> (unless erias is slowed to 20') <Erias> (I'm good.) <DM> Apol disappears around the corner after the running man. * Vita keeps following Apol <DM> The rest of you run around the corner to see Apol up ahead, and the man seems to be running towards you. <DM> He runs past Apol. <DM> Init. * Vita keeps following the man, howeve.... oh <Fordran> |roll d20 <tafal> 15 | [d20=15] <Erias> |roll d20 <tafal> 14 | [d20=14] <Vita> |roll 20+4 <tafal> incorrect usage: roll <string> (where <string> is something like: d6 or 2d6 or 2d6+4 or 2d6+1d20 or 2d6+1d5+4d7-3d4-6) => Rolls that set of virtual dice <Apol> |roll d20+1 <tafal> 9 | [d20=8] [+1=1] <Vita> |roll d20+4 <tafal> 24 | [d20=20] [+4=4] <Foster> |roll d20+1 <tafal> 15 | [d20=14] [+1=1] <DM> Vita. <Vita> What do I see? <DM> Apol is swinging around in mid-air to face the man, who is running towards you, with a surprised expression. <DM> The alley continues behind him, but the rest of you have bunched up this exit. <DM> Why is he running towards you? * Vita tries to get in his way so he can't get away <DM> Okay. Foster. <Vita> (some sort of trip thing?) <DM> do you want to try a trip attack? <DM> Pup can, you can't, I think. <Vita> Sure. * Foster looks around for the man he was following, who is obviously less than present. <Vita> "Pup, stop him" <DM> roll a touch attack * paolo has joined #ddi <DM> (Jump paolo!) <paolo> i am but a disembodied spirit * paolo wisps <Vita> |roll d20 + 3 <tafal> incorrect usage: roll <string> (where <string> is something like: d6 or 2d6 or 2d6+4 or 2d6+1d20 or 2d6+1d5+4d7-3d4-6) => Rolls that set of virtual dice <Vita> |roll d20+3 <tafal> 15 | [d20=12] [+3=3] <DM> That hits <DM> Wait. <DM> Does Pup have Improved Trip? <Vita> How would he? <Fordran> checking <Fordran> no <DM> Okay, nevermind, it hits, roll trip (d20+str) <Vita> |roll d20+3 <tafal> 23 | [d20=20] [+3=3] <Foster> | <Foster> |roll d20+1 <tafal> 21 | [d20=20] [+1=1] <Fordran> (ha) <Foster> (tafal, you so crazy.) <DM> The german shephard knocks the man on his back. <Foster> "Ow." <Vita> "Good boy!" <Vita> "Where do you think you're going, sir?" <DM> Fordran * Foster looks up at the gnome. <DM> (geordan) * Fordran moves toward the man. <Foster> "Pardon me, miss. So it's also gnawing on Foster's pant leg) <Foster> (Probably, but I don't think we'll be in combat rounds for very long at this rate) * Erias arrives with readied mace (move equiv) and prepares an action to attack if he tries to flee (standard, if that's a standard) <Vita> (I didn'task him to do that!" <Vita> "Pup, stop" <Erias> "I'm the one you set on fire." <DM> Pup stops gnawing. <DM> The armored man does look a bit singed. <Fordran> "Erias, we're not supposed to draw our weapons." <DM> Erias, Foster, make spot checks. <Foster> |roll d20+1 <tafal> 3 | [d20=2] [+1=1] <Fordran> (nice) <Erias> |roll d20+1 <tafal> 12 | [d20=11] [+1=1] <Foster> (Why was my natural 20 wasted so cruelly on a roll I could not win? ; ;) * Erias nods. "Is he drunk?" <Erias> "He doesn't seem malicious. I'm not sure what just happened." <Foster> "What was what? My exiting the alley into your conveyance here (gestures at Pup) was the first I saw of you." <Foster> "I most certainly did not set your armored friend here aflame. <Erias> "Someone who looks like you just shot fire at me and then ran down this alley. We were chasing him." <Vita> "Convean...? Anyway, what were you doing before that?" * Erias looks more closely at Foster, but he never got a good look at the other guy, so there's not much to compare to. <Vita> "Unless! It was an illusion of him! Or are you currently an illusion sir?" <Foster> "I was chasing a man out of that alley." * Vita has Pup gently poke a paw at the man <Fordran> "We were chasing a man into that alley!" <Foster> "I assure you, I feel quite real." <Erias> "Was this man your twin, perhaps?" <Foster> "As far as I am aware, I have no twin." * Fordran looks back into the alley. I'm a bit slower than the others, in this armor." <DM> "Right. Don't draw your weapons in town, or they'll be confiscated." He points, and they run that way. He says over his shoulder, "Enjoy the farmer's fairrrr..." <Fordran> "...Must be some fair." * Vita looks confused * Erias looks uncomfortable. <Foster> "Their vegetables are quite good, I must say." <Vita> "I still don't understand why your non-existent twin played with fire" <Erias> "I'm pretty sure we were telling the truth." <Fordran> "Well, if you didn't sling fire at us, then what were you running around for?" <Foster> "I was chasing someone who looked like a man who I saw murder two people the night before last." * Fordran looks up at Erias. * Erias blinks, turns back toward Foster. <Erias> "What did he look like? What can you tell us?" * Foster stands up warily, eyeing the lizard. * Vita backs up away from Foster slightly, giving him some room * Apol eyes him right back. <Foster> "Oh, about yay high," *gestures*, "iron grey hair, dispassionate expression, capable of cracking the necks of petty thieves like twigs." <Erias> "Petty thieves? Were the ones he killed thieves?" <Foster> (to the lizard) "This is a bit of a non sequitor, but you wouldn't happen to be the familiar of one Bobdalimus, would you?" <Apol> *mumbles* "Wux doppleganger munthrek? Othokent arirthos ukris?" * vita-food has joined #ddi <Erias> "Uh... who's watching the orc? And the accused man?" <Foster> "No, I'm not a doppelganger, and as far as I'm aware, everything I've said is true." <Fordran> (audrey is generating food, taking lappy downstairs) <Apol> "Bob? Bobdalimus? Axun. Wux *ocuir* vethithurirlevethix Bob?" <Erias> "Sir, if you'd like to walk with us, we need to get back to the fountain." <Fordran> "Oh. I... the elf is. And ... Sam." <vita-food> "Apol, what language are you speaking?" * Erias begins walking back. <Foster> (to the armored man) "Thieves, thugs, something of that nature. They robbed and nearly killed an elderly gentleman the other day." * Apol looks at Vita, "Darastrix. Er, dragon talk." * Erias beckons. "Come with us. I want to hear more of this." <Fordran> "...Dragon?" <Foster> (to the lizard) "I've met one of his associates. An antiquities dealer by the name of Argus, to be precise. You may or may not know him." <Apol> "Well, that's what Bob called this language." <Foster> "He seemed rather concerned." <DM> If you're all following Erias more or less... * Foster follows along. * Fordran follows. <Fordran> /follow Erias <DM> You walk back out of the alley towards the City Center, the table is charred, and the parasol is a soaked skeleton, but the fire didn't spread. <DM> Sam is standing there, looking uncomfortable. <vita-food> yes <DM> There's no sign of Kel'duin or the Orc. <Apol> "I don't know anyone but Bob, and Erias, and Sam, and Fordran, and Vita (and her horse), and Kel'duin." "Where is this Argus?" <Fordran> "Ah. Maybe the elf took it upon himself to bring the orc to the magistrate?" <Erias> "Damn it." <DM> As you approach, Sam looks up to you uncomfortably and says "The orc ran that away." <vita-food> "Where's the elf?" <Erias> "And the elf?" <DM> "The elf cursed something at me about having my liver if I ran and went after." <Fordran> "Nice of you to stick around." <vita-food> "Ewww liver" <DM> Sam grins weakly. * Fordran looks at Erias. "Should we go after them?" * Erias looks in the direction of the Elf / Orc. <Erias> (to Sam) "How long ago was that?" <vita-food> "How capable is the elf?" <DM> It's a broad avenue in that direction, probably something the locals call "Main street" or "broadway" <DM> No sign of them. <Erias> "I don't know. He didn't do much in the last battle." <DM> "Almost as soon as you got shot at." <Fordran> "He was pretty tied up." <Erias> "Damn. Not much chance of catching them..." <DM> "Er, well, they managed to track me for three days..." <Erias> (to Fordran) "True." <Fordran> "That orc is probably pretty tired. I think Kel'duin can manage." <Erias> "Well, at this point it would be a matter of searching that half of the town." <vita-food> "Maybe we should just wait by the magistrate's and hope the elf comes?" <Erias> "Either Kel'duin will kill the orc and return, or the orc will kill or capture Kel'duin..." <Erias> "Either way I think we should continue with our... plan." <Erias> "Except that we now have no reason to visit the magistrate, do we?" <DM> Sam looks relieved. <Erias> "Perhaps we should at least visit and report the ambush and raider activity?" * Apol hasn't been paying attention and hovers around Foster. "Where is this Argus?" <Fordran> "Yes. We should." <Erias> "I also need to enquire as to the whereabouts of my former companion." <vita-food> "Ok." <Erias> (we'll head to the magistrate's office) <Fordran> "And we need to find out more about this new church." * Fordran closes his Quest Log. <Erias> "Right." <vita-food> "What new church?" <vita-food> (share quest?) <DM> (Wait wait, the quest text is still scrolling) <Erias> (hard to remember the original stuff :P ) <Foster> "He runs an antique store on the edge of town. I told him I'd let him know if I heard anything about a creature matching your description, but you can come along with me if you like." <Apol> "WHere is this Argus?" <Erias> (I've got a macro you can use for that) <Apol> (delete line :p) <Foster> (yeah. :P) <Fordran> ugh. /script set QUEST_TEXT_GRADIENT_CPS = "600000" <DM> The Building of Law is a squat, stone building <DM> There is an archway with no door, and ceremonially dressed guardsmen on either side. <Erias> (building of law -> antique store -> gathering information -> probably seeking out captives and raiders -> investigating new church) <Fordran> "There's some new church starting up. I don't think we've been properly introduced, what with our confused meeting and all." <Fordran> "Of course, this concerns Erias. And anything that concerns Pelor... well, I like to concern myself with it." * Fordran extends his hand. "Fordran." <Erias> "Foster, I am Erias." <vita-food> "Vita." <vita-food> *Pup growls." <vita-food> "Oh, and this is Pup" <Erias> I will approach and make some gesture of respect (bow?) to the guards. <Fordran> (Sharing quest with Vita...) <Apol> "I'll go wherever you want as long as I can find this Argus. Bob might want his stuff back. Oh, and I am Apollonaridictys. I nod at the guards and begin walking in. * Fordran nods respectfully, walks in. <DM> "*ahem* Please tie your animals outside." <Apol> "Kaetaa, bensvelk munthrek! Just kidding.) <DM> One of the clerks comes up to the party. "Plaintiff or defendent?" * Vita looks up at the clerk, confused * Erias smiles. "Neither. We are here to report... a crime, I suppose. Several, we suspect." <DM> Clerk "Ah, very well, follow me to my desk. Usually this is done at the Constabulary, but I can send them a report." * Erias nods. "I see. Very well." <DM> He walks swiftly into the left hallway and into a small office. <DM> It's... very small. <Erias> "We had a prisoner with us, but he escaped quite recently." <DM> One of you will be able to fit in there with him. * Vita wonders if she could squeeze into a corner, but then decides just to hang back * Erias has this bad feeling that we're not accomplishing anything useful here. <DM> Assuming Erias goes in, the rest of you block up the hallway. * Fordran stands just outside the door, helpfully. <Erias> I'm happy to step in and explain. * Vita blocks up the lower portion of the hallway <DM> The clerk sits behind his desk, paper and quill at the ready. <DM> He looks up at you expectantly. <Erias> (diplomacy is a paladin class skill. yay.) * Apol glides to the floor, walks into the room and climbs up the desk. <Erias> "We were ambushed a day's travel or so from the town, by a group of orcs and humans." <DM> scritch. scritch scritch. <Fordran> "And a goblin." <DM> scritch. <DM> (Helpful) <Erias> "We fought them off and captured a couple, and from our questioning, it sounds like they have been capturing slaves for some time." <DM> scritch scritch "Hmmm" scritch scritch <Fordran> "One of them carried this." * Fordran presents the [Crumpled Note]. <DM> (zomg link plz) * Vita whispers to Fordran "What does that say?" <DM> "Hmm.. hmm.." takes note, puts it next to his parchment. <Erias> "Over the course of our travel to this town, both captives escaped." <Fordran> "It's just a tally, looks like." <DM> scritch. <Fordran> "One of the orcs said they were told to capture people. I think they needed to catch 100, if that note kept track." <DM> scritchity. <Foster> "That sounds familiar." <Fordran> "No, 100. Not 10." <Erias> "Are the brigands a known threat already? Does the town government know about the captives?" <DM> "I don't think so... The constables haven't made any announcements about abductions..." <Erias> "Which agency deals with such threats? Should we go to the constabulary?" <DM> He smiles. "I'll file this report and send it to them by messenger as soon as I'm done here." <DM> "Anything else?" * Foster is lost in thought. <Fordran> "Ah. I heard of a new church in the area?" <Fordran> "Perhaps you could direct us to their temple?" <DM> He chuckles. "Is that a crime from where you're from?" * Erias smiles and applies diplomacy. "You've been very helpful. Perhaps I can ask -- one of my fellow knights was travelling to a nearby Church -- " <Erias> (bah, concurrency) <Foster> "If you're talking about the Church of the Eternal Orb, I know where it is. Was just there this morning. Posh-looking place." <DM> Yes, the Church of the Eternal Orb has just completed construction on a Temple here this past month. <DM> "" <Fordran> (Construction complete. New worship options.) <Erias> "Where would we find it?" <DM> "Take the Ballast road down towards the Market district. You can't miss the plaza." <Fordran> "Thank you very much." <DM> "My pleasure. May I help with anything else?" <Erias> "I'm looking for a missing knight from my company. Do you know if there's a place I might ask about him?" <DM> "Mm... The Constabulary deals with missing persons, but do you know where he was staying? I could direct your search there possibly." <Erias> "He had planned to visit the Church, in fact, so we will ask there as well." <Erias> (unless I know more about where he was staying) <DM> (nope) <DM> "Very good. Enjoy your stay in our fair city." <DM> As you leave, he calls down the hall for a messenger. * Apol leaps off the desk and follows the group. <Fordran> ("Anyone seen the messenger?") <Erias> once out of earshot: "Organized but uninterested. Hm." <Erias> ("I shot him.") * Foster idles along at the tail end of the group. * Vita hurries out to Pup * Erias heads outside before pausing to allow us to regroup. <Fordran> "Well, we can pursue it ourselves, once we find out what's happened to your friend." <Erias> "That sounds like the right thing to do." * Apol looks for Forster.
